Ear Wax Management

EAR WAX MANAGEMENT

WAX

Wax provides a natural protection for your ears. It is acidic and helps prevent bacteria and fungi from growing in your ears. It is also oily and sticky to help prevent foreign bodies from traveling too far into the ear canal. Cerumen is secreted through glands and in most instances will work its way naturally out of your ear canal.

Some people produce excessive wax which over time can become impacted and cause discomfort, pain and temporary hearing loss. Wearing hearing aids can make users more susceptible to wax build up as regular use of the hearing aids push wax back into the ear, preventing the wax from falling out naturally. Too much wax can also affect the performance of the hearing aids and even cause damage to the device.

WAX MANAGEMENT

We do not recommend proactive cleaning of your ears, due to its protective function. However, if a blockage occurs or if the wax is interfering with the performance of your hearing aid, then we offer a wax removal service.

We use special glasses to allow us to see clearly into the ear canal and various techniques including gentle suction to wax from your ears. This is the same techniques used by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists for wax removal.
